Interlock Bases

Bernwood provides a exceptional interlock stone but in the city of Ottawa one of the most important aspects of interlock is the base. Bernwood provides a series of interlock bases as shown below.

Traditional Base

With the proper tools and equipment, we dig to the soil conditions at the proper depth. Loam, sandy or clay will dictate the depth of the excavation.

Bernwood is one of the few landscapers that installs not only a greenline geo fabric cloth, but also a TriAx Geogrid system. We compact the granular stone to ensure minimal settling and longevity. The use of stone dust guarantees a smooth base for the pavers and walls.

Gator Base System

Gator Base panels act as an insulator to help prevent frost movement in the winter. Because significantly less excavation is required, projects are completed faster. Gator Base is made of durable engineered material that will last forever. The interlocking Gator Base panels transfer the load and reduce mobility of the pavers. The edge restraints are fastened directly to the Gator Base with Gator Screw, which prevents lateral movement of the pavers.

Concrete Base & Footing System

This is the strongest base we install and the least likely to move over time. We excavate and install a six-inch granular base with geo fabric between the native ground and the new base. We then use rebar to tie into the existing concrete and install the wood forms. The concrete is poured and allowed to cure before we use stone dust for the final grade.
